If you’re looking for an OCD specialist in Melbourne, contact Whole Mind Strategies today. Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) can be extremely difficult to live with. Individuals with OCD experience obsessions and compulsions that can be distressing, time-consuming and can severely affect how you live your life. Working with a qualified and experienced OCD specialist can help you gain the skills and knowledge to deal with your symptoms.
The compulsion to check things or hoard things comes from the want for control. The more you want control the less you feel you have it.
To want something is to fear you are lacking something. The anxiety is this fear creates the compulsion to check and check again. Is it a disorder or a habitual behaviour? I tend to look at it as a habitual behaviour, a symptom of thinking a certain way.
If you think it is a habitual behaviour then there is no habit more powerful than the mind that created it, so it can be resolved. If you think of it as a disorder, it is like you have some condition you can’t do anything about and medication is the only answer.
Most behaviour is habitual and this means it is installed in the subconscious mind and this is where it must be resolved. Clinical hypnotherapy works at a subconscious level to resolve the issues.
We work to resolve these issues over a 4 to 6 week period.
We find it takes this amount of time to change habit patterns in the mind, and most clients see a significant reduction in their compulsion over this time. People will continue to improve after this time by using the recordings we provide for them to use on a continuing basis until the issue is resolved.
Our program is six weekly sessions with a hypnotherapy session at the end, tailored to suit the individual. There is a set of four hypnosis recordings and a set of nine recordings that can be listened to in a car.
