Think about catching a ball. The mind reads speed and trajectory in a fraction of a second and signals the muscles to move. There is no conscious calculation. It simply happens because the skill has been trained to run automatically.
The problem starts when the conscious mind steps in. Worry, self-doubt, and overthinking interrupt the signals between the subconscious and muscle memory. In golf, this is known as the yips. In other sports, it shows up as freezing, rushing, or choking at the critical moment.
Hypnosis works at the subconscious level, alongside visualisation, mental rehearsal, breathing, and positive self-talk. Together, these tools help the athlete return to a calm, focused state where trained skills can run the way they were always meant to.
